Brittany Ferries

 

For the first time in Remontowa there were repaired car-passanger ferries belonging to a French shipowner. Remontowa has won the bid beating the shipyards fom Spain, Portugal, Germany and Great Britain.

The 11-years-old Barfleur (157m long, 23.3m wide) which can take about 1200 passangers aboard arrived on 8th of January 2004, and on 14th of January "Normandie" (161m long, 26m wide) which can take more than 1200 people.

Both ships belong to French company Brittany Ferries which all in all has seven ferries serving on the ferry connections between French harbour Cherbough and England, sailing accross the La Manche Chanel.

The scope of repair of Barfleur included machinery works and overhaul of two main engines, three units, two shaft lines, two rudders, stabilizers, boilers.

The electricians did the fans and electrical engines overhaul, the joiners took care of the hostel part of the ship and on the hull and car decks the maintenance work has been conducted.

The scope of repair of Normandie included the overhaul of four main engines, four boiles, more than one hundred electrical engines and whole rescue equipment. The hull, deck and tanks have been subjected to maintenance work. The range of repair has been widened by repair of rudders ( bearing has been replaced) and boilers. In the hostel part the jointers renewed the chairs, door, replaced the upholstery and floor lining.

According to work schedule both ferries left the shipyard before the end of January.
