Red Funnel double-ended ferries

"REMONTOWA" has signed the contract for the conversion of the third consecutive vessel belonged to the RED FUNNELL GROUP Ltd. – m/v “Red Eagle” (first two have been converted early 2004). The vessel is operating between Isle of Wight and Southampton and meets the regulations for the ships flying the flag of UK. The concept design of the conversion and class documentation of hull structure was prepared by BURNESS, CORLETT & PARTNERS Ltd. and further developed by REMONTOWA’s design office.

The ship will be lengthened by the insertion of 16 frames (9,6m) parallel mid-body. The cut will be arranged in the machinery space, between the generators and the forward engine. The vessel also will be modified to provide a full-length car deck for carriage of all vehicles, including heavy goods vehicles, and to maintain the existing elevating car platforms between main deck and car deck levels.

The conversion is scheduled to be completed early 2005.
